- - - COVID-19 Re-Opening Guidelines for the NMR Facility - - -
(Please also follow the general guidlines established by the CDC and Binghamton University.)

The NMR Facilities of the Chemistry Department are located in two buildings, Smart Energy 0200 and Science2 G14.
The labs are equipped with four superconducting NMR systems ranging from 100 to 600 MHz.
The Pharmacy School hosts a 400 MHz NMR in the Center of Excellence Building (COE-B028).
These instruments are used independently by various research students and faculty in the Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, and Materials Science programs.
Additionally, we provide NMR service and analysis to other departments on campus, as well as to various universities, colleges, and companies in the region.

Virtual Chem335 NMR Lab Tour: Video (210 MB) and HTML
Tours of our facility and demonstrations of our instruments can be arranged for schools, teachers, students, and researchers.
To schedule tours, training, service requests, or for general NMR assistance please contact the NMR Specialist, Dr. Jürgen Schulte, Phone: (607)777-4405.

Approved rates for NMR service:

Chemistry Department

Bruker Avance III 600
  • 14.1 Tesla shielded, superconducting Magnet
  • 600 MHz Proton NMR, 3 RF Channels, z-Axis Pulsed Field Gradients
  • 5 mm Broadband/Fluorine Observe Probe
This probe is used in automation and manual operation for routine analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in solution. It is equipped for pulsed field gradients and can be tuned automatically to detect almost all nuclei. Typical experiments performed with this probe include all two-dimensional experiments, i.e. COSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC, and many more.
  • 5 mm H,C,N,P Quadruple Inverse Probe
This probe is used for biological and biochemical samples in solution. It is equipped for pulsed field gradients and its proton sensitivity is approx. 50% better than the BBFO probe. Multinuclear correlation experiments using almost any combination of Hydrogen, Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus are possible. Excellent water suppression capabilities make this the ideal probe for the analysis of proteins and nucleic acids in aqueous buffer solutions.
  • 2.5 mm H,X,Y Triple Resonance MAS Probe
This probe is used for the analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in solid state. The probe can spin samples at up to 35,000 Hz and it can detect almost all nuclei. Typical experiments performed with this probe include single-pulse, CP/MAS, and REDOR experiments.
Bruker Avance Neo 400 (installation in progress - cooling down the magnet)
  • 9.4 Tesla shielded, superconducting Magnet
  • 400 MHz Proton NMR, 3 RF Channels, z-Axis Pulsed Field Gradients
  • 5 mm BB+19F Observe "iProbe"
This probe is used in automation and manual operation for routine analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in solution. It is equipped for pulsed field gradients and can be tuned automatically to detect almost all nuclei. Typical experiments performed with this probe include all two-dimensional experiments, i.e. COSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC, and many more.
  • 3.2 mm H,C,N Triple Resonance CP/MAS Probe
This probe is used for the analysis of organic and biochemical compounds in solid state. The probe can spin samples at up to 24,000 Hz. Typical experiments performed with this probe include single-pulse, CP/MAS, and REDOR experiments.
Bruker AC 300

This spectrometer is used for the observation of all nuclei in liquid and solid research samples.
  • 7.05 Tesla superconducting Magnet
  • Tecmag DSPECT Spectrometer Upgrade
  • 300 MHz Proton NMR
  • 5 and 10 mm Dual C,H Probes
  • 5 and 10 mm Broadband Observe Probes
  • 5 mm Dual F,H Probe
  • Solid State NMR Accessories

  • (five 7 mm DOTY CP/MAS probes with MAS speeds up to 5 kHz)
Bruker AF 100

This spectrometer is used for teaching.
  • 2.35 Tesla superconducting Magnet
  • Tecmag/Libra Spectrometer Upgrade
  • 100 MHz Proton NMR
  • Multinuclear Capabilities
  • Solid State NMR Accessories

  • (CP/MAS with MAS speeds up to 5 kHz)

Pharmacy School

Bruker Avance III HD 400
  • 9.1 Tesla shielded, superconducting Magnet
  • 400 MHz Proton NMR, 2 RF Channels, z-Axis Pulsed Field Gradients
  • 24-sample SampleCase Automation
  • 5 mm Broadband/Fluorine Observe Probe
This probe is typically used with an automatic sample changer for routine analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in solution. It is equipped for pulsed field gradients and can be tuned automatically to detect almost all nuclei. Typical experiments performed with this probe include all two-dimensional experiments, i.e. COSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC, and many more.
