Binghamton University

The NMR Facilities of the Chemistry Department are located in two laboratories (B-2 and G-14) in the Science II building.
We are equipped with four superconducting NMR systems ranging from 100 to 600 MHz. These instruments are used by various researchers in the Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Materials Science programs. Additionally, we also provide NMR service and analysis to other departments on campus, as well as to various universities, colleges, and companies in the region.

Tours of our facility and demonstrations of our instruments can be arranged for schools, teachers, students, and researchers.

Rate structure for NMR service:
$10.88 / hour - Binghamton University - Chemistry Department (additional discounts apply)
$32.62 / hour - Binghamton University - other departments
$72.00 / hour - external rate

Bruker Avance III 600
  • 14.1 Tesla shielded, superconducting Magnet
  • 600 MHz Proton NMR, 3 RF Channels, z-Axis Pulsed Field Gradients 
  • 5 mm Broadband/Fluorine Observe Probe
    This probe is used in automation and manual operation for routine analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in solution. It is equipped for pulsed field gradients and can be tuned automatically to detect almost all nuclei. Typical experiments performed with this probe include all two-dimensional experiments, i.e. COSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC, and many more.
  • 5 mm H,C,N,P Quadruple Inverse Probe
    This probe is used for biological and biochemical samples in solution. It is equipped for pulsed field gradients and its proton sensitivity is approx. 50% better than the BBFO probe. Multinuclear correlation experiments using almost any combination of Hydrogen, Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus are possible. Excellent water suppression capabilities make this the ideal probe for the analysis of proteins and nucleic acids in aqueous buffer solutions.
  • 2.5 mm H,X,Y Triple Resonance MAS Probe
    This probe is used for the analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in solid state. The probe can spin samples at up to 35,000 Hz and it can detect almost all nuclei. Typical experiments performed with this probe include single-pulse, CP/MAS, and REDOR experiments.
Bruker AM 360

        This spectrometer is dedicated to the measurement of organic research compounds in solution.
  • 8.45 Tesla superconducting Magnet

  • 5 mm Dual C,H Probe
  • 10 mm Broadband Observe Probe

Bruker AC 300

        This spectrometer is used for the observation of all nuclei in liquid and solid research samples.
  • 7.05 Tesla superconducting Magnet
  • 300 MHz Proton NMR 
  • 5 and 10 mm Dual C,H Probes
  • 5 and 10 mm Broadband Observe Probes
  • 5 mm Dual F,H Probe
  • Solid State NMR Accessories 

    • (five 7 mm DOTY CP/MAS probes with MAS speeds up to 5 kHz)
Bruker AF 100

        This spectrometer is used for teaching.
  • 2.35 Tesla superconducting Magnet
  • Tecmag/Libra Spectrometer Upgrade
