Two laboratory experiments have been developed. In the first experiment (Drug Release), students are introduced to the use of polymers for drug release by measuring the release of salicylic acid from poly(lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) using samples they prepare. In the second experiment (Mechanical Properties), students prepare a variety of plasticized biopolymer films and measure their mechanical properties as displayed in stress-strain curves.
