ACS Binghamton Local Section Travel Award
The ACS Binghamton Local Section is pleased to announce the Annual ACS Binghamton Local Section Student Travel Award described below. Award nominations are due to
LocalACS@Binghamton.edu no later than Friday, March 15th, 2024.
ACS Binghamton Local Section 2024 Annual Student Travel Awards Eligibility:
- Any college or university student at Hartwick College, SUNY Broome, SUNY at Oneonta, or Binghamton University presenting at a national or regional ACS meeting.
- Preference will be given to first time attendees.
- Award is based on merit as judged by chemistry faculty from the student’s institution.
- If there are no applicants from an institution, awards will be used for qualified applicants from other institutions.
ACS Binghamton Local Section 2024 Annual Student Travel Awards Eligibility:
- Hartwick College - one undergraduate student award of $200
- SUNY at Oneonta - one undergraduate student award of $200
- Binghamton University - one undergraduate student award of $200, one graduate student award of $200
- SUNY Broome Community College - one undergraduate student award of $200
Application and Awards Procedures:
Each student applicant submits to their institution contact (typically the Chemistry Department Chair):
- A copy of their accepted meeting abstract.
- A short, explanatory letter (1 page maximum) describing what they hope to learn from the meeting.
- An email from the student’s faculty advisor indicating the student has the permission to attend the conference.
- Student names (winners and alternates) should be sent to the Chair, ACS Binghamton Local Section by Friday, March 15th, 2024. Final award decisions (and names of alternates) will be announced by April 5th, 2024.
Outstanding Undergraduate Chemistry Senior and Outstanding Graduate Student Awards
Each year, the ACS Binghamton Local Section recognizes the outstanding students studying at the college and universities within its geographic region. The Outstanding Chemistry Senior at each institution is presented with a cash award and a plaque. The Outstanding Graduate Student is presented The Zappert Award, which consists of a cash award and a plaque. The winners of these awards are chosen by the respective departments and are presented the awards at the Local Section’s Annual Awards Dinner, which typically occurs toward the end of the spring semester.

We are sad to announce the passing of Dr. Barbara Paul Losty, daughter of Drs. Henry and Mary Paul. Her obituary can be found
here and in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to made to either the Michael C. Niles Grant in Art scholarship at University of Missouri, or the Drs. Mary & Henry Paul scholarship fund in Binghamton, NY in her honor. Individuals wishing to donate to the Drs. Paul Scholarship fund may send a check made out to the ACS Binghamton Local Section to:
