  10/17/2012  Our group together with CHESS staff scientist Dr. Detlef-M. Smilgies, for the first time, determined a reversible Kirkwood-Alder transition occurred in a Pt3Cu2 nanoctahedron colloidal system. This observation was highlighted on CHESS web site http://news.chess.cornell.edu/articles/2012/Fang10172012.html   The details can be found in our recent publication [JACS 134 (34), 14043-14049 (2012)].

He is the second of our group members who were honored with “Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship”, the top level of postdoctoral fellowship from a national lab.   4/20/2012  Nathan Porter received Clifford E. Myers Summer Research Grant for support of his summer research. This grant was created from a generous gift by the Myers family, and is used for advancing top graduate student's research in area of materials chemistry. Congratulations.

  3/28/2012  Changmingzi (Cherry) Xu received an “undergraduate research project” award from Harpur College of Arts and Sciences on March 28, 2012, due to her excellent research performance and achievements. This is her second time of receiving such award. Cherry is presently preparing her honors thesis while finalizing her lab-based research.   8/12/2010 Communication "Enhancing by Weakening: Electrooxidation of Methanol on Pt3Co and Pt Nanocubes" has been chosen as a "Hot Paper" by the Editors of Angewandte Chemie for its importance in a rapidly evolving field of high current interest. This announcement will be published in the table of contents entry on Angewandte's homepage prior to publication of the full paper.

  6/18/2010  Welcome Lin Dai, a visiting Ph.D. student from Professor Zou’s group at Miami University. Ms. Dai will stay here and conduct nanocatalyst synthesis with us during the summer.

  5/14/2010  A luncheon to honor four graduate student award winners in the department, including Dan Xu and Zhaoyong Sun, was held at Olive Garden today. This year, both Dan and Zhaoyong received department “Outstanding Research Accomplishment Awards” for graduate students demonstrating their “outstanding research accomplishments”. Chair and Professor Wayne E. Jones Jr. presented the award certificate and prize ($200.00 check) to each of them.

 3/08/2007   Congratulations to Miss Sui Shan (Sandy) Chan for receiving her Undergraduate Student Summer Research Award for support of summer research. This grant contributed from a generous gift from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous and established recently by the department was competitively given to qualified undergraduate student(s) of Chemistry to conduct her/his summer research each year. This year there is only one such fellowship that Sandy received. She will work in our group on study of "drug-delivery using novel developed nanostructured materials" for two months.

 1/29/2007   We welcome Dr. Zhaoping Liu to join our group as a postdoctoral associate. He is going to work on synthesis and characterization of diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum dots. Dr. Liu was previously working at National Institute for Materials Science in Japan.
